PGA Professional Golf Management Student Club

Welcome to Florida State's PGA Professional Golf Management Club (PGM Club)!

Majoring in PGA Golf Management is a unique experience in that it thrives on social and educational interaction amongst the students in the program. In order to accomplish this, one of the requirements of the PGA is that all PGM students become active members in their University's PGM Club. This allows students in the program to share in experiences and learn from each other on what's happening in the industry.

Florida State has excellent student participation in the PGM Club. They hold monthly meetings to plan tournaments, educational opportunities and social events. The Club is run solely by the students in the program. Each year, our PGM student body elects a PGM Club Executive Board that includes a President, Vice President, Treasurer, Secretary, and Tournament Director. This allows students to take on leadership roles within the Club and provides students in the program a chance to manage their own Club's activities such as tournaments, social functions, and fund raising.

Letter from the President:

My name is Eric Steinberg and I am very excited to be this years’ President of the PGA Golf Management Student Club here at Florida State.  During my three years at FSU, I have studied under the great professors of the Dedman School of Hospitality and have had to opportunity to have internships at renowned golf courses. I have used these experiences to help me further my career as a golf professional by learning from some of the best in the business.

Last spring, I had the privilege of being elected to the Club Presidency by my fellow classmates.  Through this great opportunity I will lead students to make the most of their college experience within the PGA GM program.  The students in our program enjoy many events and activities within our program, from social events to tournaments to many trips including away football games and the PGA Merchandise Show down in Orlando. Most of our tournaments are played at local Tallahassee golf clubs including our home course, Don Veller Seminole Course, where we practice and host our Club meetings. Along with those, we also travel to other courses outside the Tallahassee area, including TPC Sawgrass, World Woods, Shoal Creek, and many other top courses in the country.  Our goal is to not only have fun and educate ourselves about the business we are going into but also to build lifelong relationships as well between the students and the golf industry leaders we get the pleasure to meet. Our students also reach out to the community and get involved with local charities. Each year, we help with Sportsability, an event that promotes outdoor sports and activities to children with disabilities.  As well our students also assist with one of the courses offered at Florida State, the Golf for Business and Life class that is taught in the College of Business each semester to promote the game of golf in the community.

Our Club is not only about golf, though.  We get heavily involved in campus intramurals and hold multiple social events that allow us to get to know each other off the course. It’s a great club that truly separates us from other students here at FSU. We add a fun and exciting element to the college experience, making it so much more engaging.  We consider ourselves a family rather than a major.  The board and I have been working hard to create new events to allow more students to be able to participate and enjoy being in our program. Our goal this year is to not only keep involvement in our program up, but raise awareness of our program within the Florida State community as well as the Tallahassee community.

Sincerely,

Eric Steinberg
2012-’13 President
